Announcement of the 4th RadioNet Engineering Forum Workshop:
Next Generation Correlators for Radio Astronomy and Geodesy
June 27 through June 29 2006, in Groningen, The Netherlands,
hosted by The Joint Institute for VLBI in Europe
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the RadioNet Engineering Forum Workshop "Next Generation Correlators for Radio Astronomy and Geodesy". The workshop will be held in June 2006 in the city of Groningen, The Netherlands, and will be hosted by JIVE, the Joint Institute for VLBI in Europe. This meeting is the fourth in a series of the engineering workshops sponsored and organized by the EU Consortium RadioNet within the Sixth Framework Program of the European Commission.
For information on the Radionet Engineering Forum see
The poster of the conference is available as a pdf file.
Workshop Objectives
The aim of the workshop is to review the current state-of-the-art in the field of correlator development, in an attempt to identify those technologies (including software, hardware and hybrid approaches) that might best address the requirements of future radio instruments, including the SKA and related SKA pathfinder projects. The meeting will bring together engineers and scientists from all over the world with an eye to fostering possible international collaborations. Since the use of off-the-shelf components is expected to continue to grow in this area of research, we specifically hope to attract the involvment of industrial partners during the event.
Programme
A preliminary programme can be found here, also in the form of a pdf file. Oral presentations will be allowed 20 minutes plus a few minutes for discussion.
Topics will include:
- Current and future instruments and projects
- Correlator and data transmission requirements for future applications
- Software correlators
- Correlator software
- Hardware correlators
- Hybrid correlators
- Interoperability/synergy
Proceedings
Presentations will be made available via Internet on the RadioNet Web-pages and the EngineeringForum Wiki page.
