Programme

For the second edition of .Astronomy (30 Nov – 4 Dec 09, Leiden) we would like to invite attendants and speakers to cover the following broad themes:

  • Citizen Science and crowd sourcing
  • Networked technologies for research
  • Web-based technologies for outreach and education
  • Web-based visualisation for astronomy

We will set aside one of the days for an Astronomy Hack Day, where keen developers can brainstorm and work on ideas.

2009 is the International Year of Astronomy, and we expect to have several project leaders for IYA cornerstone projects in attendance. As it takes place at the end of the IYA, the workshop offers the ideal opportunity to evaluate technological aspects of IYA projects, what we can build on and what emerging technologies could be incorporated in the work we do.

We will invite a limited number of keynote speakers, and leave much of the programme open to allow the workshop to be driven by its participants rather than the organisers. The registration form will offer space for submission of a talk or poster abstract. However, we will limit the number of formal talks to giev us plenty of time for open discussion.

If you have a great idea or project and would like to present this at the workshop, or even if you topics you think we should discuss, please get in touch with us by email, poc [at] dotastronomy [dot] com.

We are actively looking for sponsorship, if your organisation is interested in making a financial contribution in return for some logo love or other form of recognition, email us on the above address.
