e-MERLIN is looking for Support Scientists

We invite applications for two e-MERLIN (www.e-merlin.ac.uk) Support Scientist positions, available immediately. The two posts have a 70:30 split between support duties and the appointees own research. Appointees will join the existing Jodrell Bank Observatory (JBO) / e-MERLIN teams who are responsible for the scientific support and operations of the e-MERLIN array.

RadioNet3 supports the 45 YERAC

For the first time, the Young European Radio Astronomers Conference will be held in Latvia - Ventspils on August 19-21, 2015. This will be an important event for the Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre (VIRAC), which celebrated 20 years of existence in 2014.

Proceedings of the 12th EVN Symposium are published!

The scientific contributions from the 12th EVN Symposium are published on the Proceedings of Science. RadioNet3 has sponsored the conference, which was held on October 7-10, 2014 in Cagliari (Italy).

Effelsberg Call for Proposals - Deadline 03 June 2015 (15:00 UT)

The 100-m radio telescope of the Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie and the data reduction facilities are available to all qualified scientists. The present policy allows the allocation of up to 40% of available observing time to external astronomers. The directors of the institute make observing time available to applicants based on the recommendations of the Program Committee for Effelsberg (PKE), which judges the scientific merit (and technical feasibility) of the observing proposals.

4th RadioNet3 European Radio Astronomy Technical Forum Workshop

We are pleased to announce the 4th RadioNet3 European Radio Astronomy Technical Forum Workshop. This event will take place on October 5, October 6 and October 7, 2015 at OA Arcetri - INAF in Florence, Italy. This meeting is a continuation of a series of technical workshops combining several aspects of engineering and operational issues at European radio observatories. It provides the unique opportunity to cross border the different communities and to learn what ‘the others' are doing and enhance communication between engineers, scientists and operators. Furthermore the conjunction with the international symposium of antenna related topics provides the unique chance to communicate with colleagues outside the radio astronomy technology and to bring our forum to a wider community. The Workshop is sponsored and organized by the EU Consortium RadioNet3 within the Seventh Framework Program of the European Commission. Engineers, scientists, and operators working at, and observing with, our radio telescopes are welcome to present their interesting work in an oral or poster presentation.

Autonomous Spacecraft Navigation

With an ever increasing number of Earth satellites and deep space probes, autonomous methods of spacecraft navigation are becoming more and more important.

Call for Proposals 2015B (KVN VLBI)

The Korean VLBI Network (KVN, http://kvn.kasi.re.kr/) invites scientific proposals for VLBI observations during the 2015B season from Astronomers over the world. Observations of successful proposals will be scheduled between 15th August 2015 and 15th January 2016. Proposals should be emailed to kvnprop [at] kasi [dot] re [dot] kr before the deadline of UT 08:00 (KST17:00) on 26th May 2015.

Inauguration of JIVE as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC)

The radio telescopes of the European VLBI Network (EVN) regularly join forces in Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations, in order to explore the Universe at the highest possible angular resolution, mapping out gravitational lenses, resolving supernova explosions, pinpointing black holes and measuring the flows of material and the magnetic fields close to newly born stars.

Call for Proposals of VERA - Deadline; May 26, 2015, 08:00 UT.

We wish to inform you call for proposals of VERA; VLBI exploration of Radio Astrometry. VERA is a Japanese VLBI network, which has four 20-m stations in Japanese archipelago and aims phase referencing and astrometry observations with 2-beam system. It makes simultaneous observations of two objects with the 22-GHz and 43-GHz bands. VERA, Kashima-34m and Nobeyama-45m network mode is also available.

RadioNet3 Workshop: Multi-Frequency mm-wave Radio Telescopes & Other Software Controlled Operations

We are pleased to announce the 4th RadioNet3 European Radio Astronomy Technical Forum Workshop. This event will take place from Monday, October 5, 09:00, until Wednesday October 7, 2015, 17:00, at the INAF - Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory, in Florence, Italy. There will be a workshop dinner on Tuesday 20:00h. This meeting is a continuation of a series of technical workshops combining several aspects of engineering and operational issues at European radio observatories.
